Carol Dunitz
Playwright, Lyricist, Composer and Actor
From the afternoon little Carol Dunitz accompanied her mother to a matinee of Gypsy, she has been captivated by the musical theatre. Dunitz started composing music by age ten and continues to write melodies and lyrics to this day. She laughs when she tells you that while her songs can be reminiscent of many styles and eras – they all sound like they were written for the stage when she sings them.
Dunitz ran a boutique advertising agency for fifteen years. She has written seven books including Louder Than Thunder, a parable about how to become a better listener, numerous speeches and scripts, and extensive marketing materials over the years.
Dunitz created her first musical, Victoria, while in graduate school. She has also researched and written Mrs. President Lincoln, a musical about the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln through his wife’s eyes; 2020 The Musical, an interactive political show with songs about controversial issues; and Bernhardt On Broadway, a musical about great French actress Sarah Bernhardt.
Bernhardt On Broadway was originally a one-woman stage show which Dunitz toured in around the country. She has taken the original show and transformed it into a screenplay with ten characters and extras. The new movie has fifteen songs.
Dunitz has a doctorate in Speech Communication and Theatre. She has spoken professionally about numerous communication issues.
Dunitz is an active volunteer who has held leadership positions in professional and charitable organizations and is an avid sportswoman who particularly enjoys golf and tennis. She has four daughters and two grandchildren.
